SOLD HOWARD HITCHMOUGH. "EBONY HUNTER".

Another superb offering from Howard Hitchmough who was held in such high esteem and whose work was much sought after at the time when Howard was the UK's premier knifemaker, before moving to the States where he gained even more recognition as a maker of high class folders. Such was the high standard of his work, he was even asked to make a presentation knife for (then) Prince Charles. This particular fixed blade gives an insight into the skills which were to be put to good use when he moved on to making folders, with its perfectly fitted 'scalloped' shaped s/steel bolsters set off by an Ebony handle with very thin red liners and s/steel pins. Blade:3-1/4 inches. Oal:7-1/2 inches. Complete with original crocodile leather sheath, also made by Howard.

ALAN WOOD. "EXPERT".

A lovely sized knife that Alan tells me sells very well at Shows. This particular example is in premium RWL34 s/steel and handled in white Micarta with thick brown Tufnol liners and bronze fittings. The blade has a hand-rubbed finish giving it an extra touch of class. Blade:3-3/8 inches.

SOLD RUSSELL EASLER (deceased). USA. "DROP POINT HUNTER".

Russell was a sought after Maker with a well earned reputation for making first class knives, as befitting a Member of the USA Knifemakers Guild.

Sadly no longer with us, this Drop Point Hunter is a fitting testiment to his superb skills. I would guess that the steel is ATS34 s/steel with a s/steel guard and fittings, and handled in gorgeous Sambar Stag of a quality that is almost impossible to find these days. Blade:4 inches. Oal:8-1/8 inches.

Complete with original sheath signed by Russell, which seems to suggest the knife was made in 2006.

A stunning looking small - but still very useful - knife from Alan ! The eye catching blade is Rose Damasteel with a handle of stabilised Masur Birch and s/steel fittings, all complimented by green liners. Almost too pretty to take out and use but that would be a great shame as this knife would work as good as it looks - and be the envy of many a shooting partner on a stalk. Blade:2-1/2 inches. EMBERLEAF KNIVES. "PERYTON v1 + ARCAELIS v1".

Emberleaf Knives have developed a reputation for top quality, practical and proven designs for the stalker and outdoors enthusiast. The seller of the Peryton was so enamoured with the quality of the knife that he later ordered the Arcaelis in the same handle material to make a matching pair. Both knives are in AEB-L steel and Molten Bees Inlace handle material and each have their own brown leather sheaths.

TOP - Peryton blade: 4 inches. Oal: 8-1/2 inches.

Both knives show signs of light use and come complete with certificates and boxes, which show some storage marks.

BOKER. GERMANY. "HUNTERS KNIFE TRIO".

While this is obviously a folder, I've included here as I know this particular style of knife is very popular with Stalkers and Outdoor enthusiasts in general, as it has a very useful Saw blade along with a locking main blade. On this particular version, the blade is made from Premium powdered metal CPM Cru-wear - a high end carbon tool steel with a reputation for superb edge holding along with reasonable stain resistance and is a definite upgrade on the standard 440C steel usually associated with this style of folder. Handled in some very nice Stag and, of course, with the obligatory corkscrew to celebrate a successful day in the field. Blade:8.5cm. Closed:11cm. Complete with original box.

If you ever felt that Alan's Mini-Hunter model (now also offered by Casstrom as the 'Safari') was slightly too small for your hand, then this version will certainly appeal. You could say this is it's 'big brother' which offers all the design advantages of the original design but more suited to a larger hand (and/or possibly the larger species). Handle in Brown Richlite with bronze fittings and in AEB-L steel. Blade:3-1/4 inches. Oal:7-3/4 inches. Complete with a brown leather belt sheath.

Rare to see a 'Ripper' on its own as this knife is usually part of a double Set with a longer bladed stalking knife. Showing signs of being occasionally worn and a light resharpening, this knife still has many years of use left in it and carries the kudos of been made by the UK's most well known and long standing knifemaker. SOLD PAT MITCHELL KNIVES. SHEFFIELD.  "RABBIT KNIFE".

Despite not having the 'Pat Mitchell' logo, this lovely little knife was made by Pat Mitchell Knives in their Portland St. workshop. Stuart Mitchell confirmed to me that his Dad made a range of knives for a Gamekeeper associate, tasked with looking after Partridges, hence the logo. This particular knife was obviously aimed at the 'Rabbiter' as shown by the nicely executed quality sheath. The handle appears to be Yew with brass fittings and the steel has one or two very minor spots of tarnish. Blade: 2-5/8 inches. Oal: 6-1/4 inches. Complete with original sheath.

While, strictly speaking, this is classed as a 'Boot Knife' the style and shape of the blade - along with the Stag handle - would suggest this model is equally suited to field sports and the great outdoors in general.

SOLD A.G.RUSSELL. USA. "3 PIECE STAG HUNTER".

A stunning looking knife from one of the Giants of the Knifeworld, A.G. Russell who passed away in 2018. In the 1970's and onwards, he was the driving force in promoting knife collecting and in the process resurrected Morseth Knives which also played a large part in the career of Bob Dozier.

I would guess this particular knife was made in the late 1980's-early 1990's and follows the traditional Morseth knives in design. The 3-piece Sambar stag is lovely and of a quality rarely available today. The nickel silver guard shows some tarnish where it has reacted to being kept in the leather sheath (but could be restored without too much effort).

I am very happy to have two knives in my Collection from this superb Japanese Maker. Now approaching 84 years of age, Mr. Itou knives will become harder to acquire and this is a rare chance to buy one. Famous for his custom R2 Forged Damascus steel, these knives will cut as good as they look. This is a large knife, possibly suited to the larger species, but really just a gem of a knife to own (and use!). Blade: 5-1/4 inches. Oal: 10-1/2 inches. Handled in Premium Desert Ironwood with n/silver fittings, I cannot see any buyer being disappointed with this knife. Complete with Tooled leather sheath on a metal swivel.

A very well respected and reknowned Maker, who was a member of the Knifemaker's Guild, so you know the standard of his work is going to be high. This particular model appears to be based of Bob's (Loveless) classic Dropped Hunter, although with a shorter blade and, as such, is more idealy suited to this 'side of the pond' where the species tend to be smaller. The steel is stainless with a s/steel guard and fittings, and a dark wood handle (which has a very small crack near the thong hole) on maroon liners. Blade: 3-1/2 inches. Oal: 8-1/2 inches.

This knife has been used - and that shows on the blade - but still has many years of life left in it. Complete with original sheath, also made by Russell. Good condition. £195 inc. UK p&p.

Described in their catalogue as  - "A rugged compact knife for hunting and field use, it will prove itself invaluable for all sportsmen".

Since the demise of Pat Mitchell Knives due to the passing of both Stuart Snr. (who actually made the knives) and his wife, Pat (who ran the business and whom it was named after) these knives have become sought after by Collectors and also those looking for a very good quality Handmade Sheffield knife - as opposed to one made in the Far East !

These knives keep a superb edge due to the SF77 high carbon stainless steel used by Stuart Snr. This particular knife is handled in a very attractive wood laminate, which was one of the handle options offered, and a brass guard and pins. The original sheath is missing but the knife comes with a high quality sheath similar to the original style. This is, without doubt, the best quality Pat Mitchell knife I have seen since their passing and whoever buys this will not be disappointed !
